Deer Feet

The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]! Habakkuk 3:19 (AMPC)

Deer feet, or hooves, are anatomical wonders. Whether simply running, chasing other deer or evading danger, muscular hind legs propel their movements. The front legs serve as pivot points to make sharp turns. But the hooves make it all possible. (Google Search)

Habakkuk, who was active around 612 BC, was a prophet whose oracles and prayer are recorded in the Book of Habakkuk, the eighth of the collected twelve minor prophets in the Hebrew Bible. He is revered by Jews, Christians, and Muslims. (Google Search)

Now that we have that all cleared up, let me ask you a question: Would you like to have hind’s feet? He created deer with the ability to climb steep mountains effortlessly and to stand fearlessly on ledges along the way. I don’t know about you, but looking at this picture makes my knees feel like jelly.

We are the masterpiece of His creative efforts; and He designed us differently. He redeemed us which makes it possible to “stay on our feet” while putting full trust in Him. This gives us confidence to walk and make progress upon high place of trouble, responsibility and suffering.

We have to remember that we live in a world where our spiritual enemies never declare a truce. They would be happy to push us off the cliffs or trip us up without provocation. While the armor of God may seem heavy as we trudge alone, we must be alert and wear it. No matter what happens, we need to be able to stand our ground and after we have done everything, to stand (Ephesians 6:13).

When we are in the thick of any battle, remind us to assert our strength in You because You are right there fighting alongside us. Even when we feel we are losing the battle, we just cannot give up. Our assignment is to hold tightly to Your hand and just keep standing. This is victory!

Hind’s Feet on High Places

Creator-God, we desire to stand our ground, and after we have done everything, to stand. Please give us that kind of strength! AMEN.
