A Meeting with Jesus

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Psalm 143:8 (NIV)

We all worry. You cannot deny this fact. Me? I tend to worry about dumb stuff that never happens. Can’t you just hear Him saying, “Come on, let’s talk about this!” Perhaps the questions are these: what are you worrying about what are you going to do to get unworried? Tricia Goyer (Mornings with Jesus) has a few ideas and shares what she has learned during her “very busy” life.

Have you ever spent a night in worry and distress? I have. As the mother of ten children, there is always one of them with a concern that keeps me up at night. Although I try to turn my worries over to Jesus in prayer, the darkness around me makes the situation seem heavier and more oppressive. Yet after a night of discouragement, it’s often with the light of dawn that my heart fully understands that Jesus is present and can help in every situation.

Over the years, I’ve made a habit of meeting with Jesus with an open Bible in the morning. With the first rays of light, my soul rejoices at spending time with the Son of God. Because this is my very first act at the beginning of my day, I’m able to bring all the burdens I’ve carried through the night and drop them at the feet of Jesus. No matter how many concerns weigh on me in the dark, I’m able to take them to Jesus and leave them there, knowing He will intercede for me (Romans 8:34).

After all, Jesus has many more children than even I do.

FAITH STEP: What burdens do you carry? At this moment, make a list and take them to Jesus. Leave them with Him, asking Him to intercede and bring new light and hope into your heart for every concern.

In the Garden

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that tells us to be anxious for nothing. You have given us promise after promise and yet we still feel overwhelmed by events and possible circumstances. Teach us to lean into You and to dig into Your Word to find life’s answers. AMEN.
