The Good We Cannot See

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Ephesians 1:3 (ESV)

We cannot count our blessings; they are too numerous! Of course, then there are the great things that we can’t even see.

There is good in this chaotic, warring world. We never hear about the woman in Sudan who gave up her bread to feed her starving children. Seldom do we get news about the father who took the bullet for his son in the ongoing battle in Ukraine. Occasionally, we hear about or participate in the pay-it-forward movement and receive random acts of kindness from others.

Currently, there is more good than bad, but we don’t recognize it due to the media hype on the negative. Can you picture Jesus anxiously wringing His hands helplessly and wondering what to do next? No, that is not how He works. His involvement in our daily lives is a good thing but we don’t actually see it. He is completely in control and working behind-the-scenes—smack dab in the middle of turmoil.

Trust is the only thing that will open our eyes to see more blessings.

Sarah Young says this:

Your wisdom and knowledge are deep and richer that words could ever express. Your judgments are unsearchable. Your paths beyond tracing out! So, my wisest choice is to trust in You at all times—even when my world feels unsteady, and I don’t understand Your ways.

I need to remember that You are always with me, holding me by my right hand. And afterward You will take me into Glory. As I ponder this hidden treasure—my heavenly inheritance—I thank You for this glorious blessing I cannot yet see.

Looking for blessings (or the good we cannot see) is truly an adventure. It will take you places where you’ve never been and at the very least give you a new perspective on old thoughts. I liken it to a treasure hunt.

Happy hunting!

Count Your Blessings

Heavenly Father, You are on top of things and we are grateful. Thank You for the seen and unseen blessings. Please let us see more of the hidden goodness that is all around us as we learn to trust You more. AMEN.
