Teamwork by Patricia Tichonoff
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Ecclesiastes 4:12
All of us need to be in some kind of partnership with each other. There are a variety of partnerships whether it’s family, marriage, or with friends and especially with work.
God designed us to be in relationship, especially with His Son, Christ. In 1 Corinthians, 1:9 we read: God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
We are to encourage each other—to be understanding. When one in the team is struggling, we are to share knowledge in a patient and loving manner. We are to be quick to forgive and to stay humble.
I have a strong alliance with one of my ministries I work with at church. The three of us are very different in personalities, and even in age. Yet, we are respectful of each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We listen to each other when we are working on a project and respect the others’ opinions and are willing to sit down and talk through any issues whether they are positive or negative. It took a few years to really know each other but now we are willing to come together for the benefit of the church and the projects.
The wonderful thing about being in a partnership is that we have now developed trust in each other. Trust is vitally important when we stand alongside our sisters and brothers in times that are difficult. It is imperative not to let differences tear apart the goal. To take the time to truly listen, keep an open mind, and to find compassion for what the other person may be experiencing is essential. Teamwork does not mean we always agree but we do listen with the heart.
God has brilliantly designed us never to be alone, not to be hard hearted. When I let go and let God, I can feel the weight of any issues dissolve and my heart feels freer. Remember, Christ is our silent partner and we should always come to Him first.
He’s the perfect partner in all relationships and teamwork.
Heavenly Father, You designed life not to be lived alone but in relationship with one another. We are to support and encourage one another and build a strong bond not only with each other, but with You as well. Thank You for reminding us that when we fail in any task, You will pick us up and dust us off and say, “All is well, I am here for you.” AMEN.
