Sharing Sweet Abundance

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)

Never had bananas foster but I have been to New Orleans. They serve some incredible food! Not sure that my digestive system could tolerate all the spices and sauces everyday but once in a while is a yummy treat. Barbara Lumpkins Walls (Mornings with Jesus) had a unique experience while in Louisiana and so did the unknown couple who received her generosity.

While I was in New Orleans recently for a conference, I reconnected with a former colleague who took me to brunch at a famous restaurant in the city. Jerry is friends with one of the restaurant’s owners, and we received the royal treatment from the moment we stepped through the door. At the end of the meal, we were stunned when servers presented us with five—yes, five—desserts, compliments of the restaurant’s co-owner. Bread pudding, strawberry shortcake, cheesecake, an ice cream parfait, and bananas foster—a generous table of treats!

As the waiter prepared the bananas foster at our table, I overheard a young coupled seated next to us say they wanted to order it. After the flaming dessert was served, I asked if they would like to have some of ours. “Yes!” the man said without hesitation. They enjoyed it, even before the entrees arrived. It was wonderful to share our sweet abundance with others.

Jesus generously gave of Himself to bless others. He fed hungry crowds who came to hear Him speak (Luke 9:16). He washed the dirty feet of His disciples (John 13:5). And He gave His life to pay for the sins of the world, that that includes mine (Galatians 1:4).

Jesus’s generosity blesses me, and I believe I’m blessed to be a blessing to others. So why not share Him—even if it’s through a tasty dessert?

FAITH STEP: It doesn’t take much to brighten someone’ day. What will you do to bless a family, friend, or even a stranger today?

Loving Lord, thank You for all Your reminders to share with others. Help us to share more than tasty treats—to share Your love which is the sweetest of all. AMEN.
