Queen of Clean

For with God nothing will be impossible. Luke 1:37 (NKJV)

We all have our favorite chores to do! I like to do laundry, fold it, and put it away. I’m not crazy in love with vacuuming but I don’t mind dusting. Most of us hate cleaning the toilet and bath tub but it must be done. Our attitude toward these chores can make or break our day. Jeanette Levellie (Mornings with Jesus) tells us how she came to terms with cleaning and how it changed her entire outlook.

I look at my day planner and see “Clean bathrooms.” Ugh and double ugh. I’d rather train for a marathon or memorize Psalm 119 (the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses) than scrub a toilet. The Love to Clean Queen I am not.

Oh, yes, I’ve hired numerous people who enjoy housework to rescue me. One was allergic to cats and had my couch cushions strewn across the lawn, vacuuming them for an hour. Another wanted more money than my college graduate husband earns. The last one got testy when I asked her to pick up items and dust under, not around, them.

So, I prayed a desperate prayer. “Lord, please cause me to enjoy housework.”

I realized this might be one of those requests that takes Jesus a lifetime to fulfill. I wouldn’t be dancing with my mop and singing as I scrub the following Saturday. But I figured if Jesus could heal a leper, forgive a prostitute, and resurrect a dead girl, He’d be up to changing my cleaning-hating DNA.

Several weeks later, I was on a trip and popped into a cute boutique. When I felt compelled to buy a can of furniture spray instead of a garden flag, I realized Jesus was a work. And when I got home and actually used the spray, my heart burst with hope for all those other situations and people I’ve considered “impossible.” The broken relationships. The stubborn habits. The stony hearts and closed minds.

As I breathed in the fresh lemony aroma and viewed the bright gloss on my coffee table, I smiled. Jesus is still in the miracle business.

FAITH STEP: Get brave and ask Jesus to change something that yesterday you thought was impossible.

God of Miracles

Gracious God, thank You for bringing needed changes into our lives. Remind us that with You nothing is impossible. AMEN.
