A Moment in Time

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35 (ESV)

Recently I spent some time with one of my dearest friends and I was privileged to hear her moment in time story. It warmed my heart as she shared. I truly believe this is what love is all about.

She was at a busy intersection when the light turned red. Beside her, in the next lane, was a bus with challenged children. While she sat during the long light, she looked over and a beautiful little girl gave her a timid wave. My friend waved back and that started the exchange.

The smile on this precious child’s face melted her heart. The little girl waved faster and faster. So did my friend.

This stunning child made a hand heart. My friend sent one back to her.

That sweet little girl on a bus blew kisses and they were returned.

The light changed and the bus slowly pulled away.

In the framed window, my friend watched as this unique little girl turned in her seat for a moment, one last time—but with a cheerless face. Their physical moment ended but not the spiritual one (as my friend has decided to pray for her).

The connection was very real. There was a flood of love that flowed between them. No cameras, cell phone selfies, and no words were spoken. Just love.

They shared a blessing that day and created a memory of a lifetime.

So simple.

During the Advent season, may we slow down and keep it simple.

Simple Gifts

Loving Lord, thank You for this humble yet very deep story. Help us to keep this season simple with a focus on sharing Your love with others. AMEN.
