Only One Way

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)

Love those Yorkies! Their little faces are so sweet; making them cuddle-worthy! This little girl decided that there was only one way to get to where she wanted to be. Crystal Storms (All God’s Creatures) gives us insight from the life lessons Minnie taught her.

*****

Minnie stands at my side of the bed and looks up when she’s ready to go to sleep. When my husband, Tim, offers to pick up our Yorkie and put her on his side of the bed, she runs to my side as if to get him to follow her. Minnie hides behind me if he attempts to help her up. Once in bed, she snuggles with Tim and plays with him before she cuddles next to me for some good sleep, but she wants to get up on the bed only by my side.

When we brought Minnie home from the breeder, we set up a makeshift kennel with old cardboard boxes on my side of the bed. This allowed her to use the potty pad as needed during the night, and I could rub Minnie’s head as she fell asleep.

Minnie moved to our bed to sleep when she was completely potty trained. Her small size prevents her from jumping onto the bed, but she’s convinced she can only get up there on my side.

I was pondering a relationship struggle I faced as I brushed my teeth. Just then Minnie ran behind my legs. Seeing Minnie in the midst of my thinking helped me realize that just as she thinks there is only one way to get on the bed, I could think of only one outcome that would be positive for everyone involved. I feared any alternative would bring more harm than good.

God prompted my heart through Minnie to know there’s more than one way for this situation to play out. I can trust Him no matter how things end. And even if this struggled doesn’t end in a positive way, God is still good.

God Is Good

Gracious God, thank You for being the way…the Way that works best! Please teach us to look to You all the time and recognize Your goodness. AMEN.
