Snatched!
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. (John 10:29)
Raising baby chicks is a new adventure. I am finding something new every day because there are life-lessons to be learned from the cute, fluffy little critters.
ME: Jesus, I think we are a lot like baby chicks.
JESUS: Really?
ME: Yes, because when I take them outside to the pen, they are cautious and fearful in their new environment. We are like that. It is uncomfortable to venture out into the unknown.
JESUS: You are correct. However, I am with you wherever you go,
ME: And I am so grateful! When the chicks finally come out of the crate, they check to see where I am. I talk to them and even sing to them. Then they seem to be okay to start their chicken thing of scratching and catching bugs. But if there is an unfamiliar sound, they run back to the fence and look for me. We do that with You, don’t we?
JESUS: Yes, you do. And I am always there.
ME: Again, I am thankful. Here, we have foxes, bobcats and other wildlife that would love a tasty chicken morsel but because I stay with the chicks when they are outside, nothing can snatch them from the pen. This is a reality check. We are like the chicks, and You are always present. Nothing can steal us away from You.
JESUS: You are gaining insight.
ME: There is still a small problem. The two older hens do not like the smaller peeps. They squawk and carry on something fierce. Rosie and Powder are going to have to share the coop with 10 littles. I can’t be there all the time to protect them. That concerns me. The littles will be very stressed and terrified.
JESUS: You cannot be there, but since I created them, I can take care of them. In time, the young chicks will learn from the hens. Just give them time, they will kind of be like mentors.
ME: Thank You. That sort of eases my mind. And what about the pecking order? There is one little one, Baby Boo, who is the runt of the bunch. It just seems so unfair that they push it around.
JESUS: Sometimes, the trials make one stronger. You will see!
ME: Jesus, yes, my trials have always given me more strength. Thank You for reminding me.
JESUS: You are welcome.
ME: One more question. So, am I now considered a full-fledged chicken tender?
JESUS: (audible laugh)
