Lord Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise

The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps Proverbs 14:6

Day after day it rains here in Arnot, PA. In many areas, the creeks have started digging into the banks and fields are filling up. I sit here with my own agenda of trying to figure a way to get the baby chicks outside between rain squalls. With the rain has come some low temperatures (40-50 degrees). The chicken coup needs to be finished but the rain is not cooperating.

The garden is too soggy to plant seeds and the driveway has deep muddy ruts. It is dark and gloomy! There is this list of things that need to be done around here but almost all require warmer days with no rain. This is my agenda and because I can’t get things checked off, I am feeling bogged down and stuck. I could easily slip into the muddy ruts!

Is our agenda more important than His? Do we get carried away with planning and executing our agenda to the point of exclusion? Sometimes I am guilty of this. When none of the pieces are fitting together nicely, we are often left with the discovery that these were our own personal plans and not the perfect one He had for us.

When the creeks rise and we push forward, we’re still faced with the return trip if things don’t work out well. It can be most embarrassing and dangerous.

Letting go of our agenda is a difficult task. We want our own plans because there is something inside of us that wants to be in control. Letting Him reveal His plans each step of the way is beyond the limits of our comfort zone. We need to know. Right? He says, “No you don’t! This is when you trust Me.”

Ouch! So, we are supposed to just sit back and wait for Him to tell us what to do next? Hardly! Before we begin our day, perhaps we should chat with Him and ask Him what He has for us. He already knows what we want to accomplish. But we must align our will to His.

I pray that none of us will be caught in any rising creek today.

The Plans

Loving Lord, thank You for the plans You have for me. Even though I like to make my own agenda, let me embrace You as my focal point. AMEN.
