Such a Time as This
And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? Esther 4:14 (NIV)
Esther’s story unfolds in a time of great danger for the Jewish people. A powerful official named Haman, fueled by pride and hatred, had manipulated King Xerxes into issuing a decree to annihilate all Jews in the Persian Empire. This wasn’t just a threat, it was a death sentence sealed by the king’s authority. Esther herself, though queen, had not revealed her Jewish identity and risked her life by approaching the king uninvited—an action punishable by death unless the king extended his scepter.
In the midst of this crisis, Esther was faced with a choice: remain silent and hope to survive, or speak up and risk everything to save her people. Mordecai’s words challenged her to see beyond fear and recognize God's purpose: "Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"
God had placed her exactly where she needed to be, and with courage and faith, Esther stepped forward—changing the course of history. Her bravery reminds us that even when the odds are against us, God can use us to bring light and deliverance.
We may not face the threat of death, but there are moments when we’re called to stand for truth, to speak when it’s hard, or to act when others are afraid. And just like Esther, God may have placed us where we are—for such a time as this.
Lord, thank You for Esther’s courage and faith in the face of danger. When fear tries to silence us, remind us that You are greater than any threat we face. Help us to trust that we are where we for a reason. Give us the strength to speak, act, and live boldly for You, knowing that You have a purpose for our lives. Use us to be lights in dark places—for such a time as this. Amen.
