No Big Thing
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
ME: Jesus, I’m so glad that You did not use the word big in that Bible verse.
JESUS: I did that for a reason. If you think that you must do big things every day to further the Kingdom, you will totally wear yourself out. I desire consistency and a deep longing to follow Me.
ME: Sometimes it is very difficult to be content with little stuff. I feel like I should be doing more.
JESUS: Feelings are fickle; they come and go. However, when you seek Me continually, I will fill you with My everlasting love.
ME: Guiding someone to accept You as their Lord and Savior is the biggest thing. Right? I’m sure that the angels celebrate with You when that happens.
JESUS: Yes, they do. So precious child of Mine, what in your curious mind, is a small thing?
ME: I don’t know how to answer You. I guess anything less than helping someone accept You would be small.
JESUS: No, My child, look again. What about the woman who lacked $5 to pay for her cart full of groceries. You reached in your purse and took care of her. Do you remember the little boy in the hotel dining room? The one screaming and fussing. You went and entertained him so his parents could eat and get on the road.
ME: OK, but I didn’t have to do anything except be me.
JESUS: Do you recall your helper in the kitchen who talked about going back to El Salvador and buying some land to build a house? You gave her all the tip money that day. You took a cup of coffee to someone who struggles to walk. After a long day, your husband even told you that the manicotti dinner and the blueberry cobbler were a home run.
ME: You call those big things? I’m just me! That stuff is just who I am. It’s no big thing.
JESUS: Really? Perhaps you do not get on a preaching soapbox to make your points. You were not created for that purpose. When you share a smile, a hug, a prayer, or a random act of kindness, they are all HUGE.
ME: I never thought of it like that. (Silence…. thinking about all His Words)
JESUS: This is what God prepared in advance for you, My child.
