He Sees, He Touches, He Heals

On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, 'Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.' Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God. Luke 13:10–13

Eighteen years of not seeing the sun in the morning or the stars at night. Eighteen years of not seeing someone smile at her. That’s how long this woman lived bent over, unseen by most, likely ignored or dismissed. But not by Jesus.

He saw her. In a crowded synagogue, in the midst of teaching, Jesus' eyes fell on her. He didn’t look past her pain or around her brokenness. He saw her – fully. Tenderly. Completely.

He called her. Jesus didn’t wait for her to ask for healing. He invited her forward, into His presence. What must that moment have felt like? To be noticed, named, and drawn near by the Messiah?

He touched her. The touch of Jesus wasn’t just physical – it was personal. It conveyed value, love, and restoration. And in that holy moment, she was healed - when she stood up straight she saw Jesus’ face!

This story reminds us of a profound truth, Jesus sees us in our pain, our waiting, our weakness. He doesn’t overlook our suffering. Whether we are bent by physical burdens, emotional wounds, or spiritual weight, He notices and He moves toward us.

He still calls us by name, still reaches out His hand. And His touch still brings healing, wholeness, and hope.

Whatever you're carrying today, know this: Jesus sees you. He longs to touch your life. And He is able to heal.

Lord Jesus, thank You for seeing us when we feel unseen. Thank You for Your compassion that reaches out to touch and heal what is broken in us. Help us to trust Your gaze, respond to Your call, receive Your healing, and begin to see others as you do. Amen.
