Created for Good Works

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

On Labor Day, we pause to reflect on the meaning and significance of work—both the labor of our hands and the intentions of our hearts. As believers, our work takes on deeper meaning because we recognize that we were created not just to work, but to fulfill God's purpose through the work we do.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God's "handiwork"—His masterpiece. That means our talents, abilities, and even our career paths are no accident. God has intentionally shaped us to carry out specific works—works that He prepared long before we were born. Whether you’re a teacher, a builder, a parent, grandparent, or a student, your work matters because it’s part of God’s plan.

Let today be more than a break from labor. Let it be a celebration of the calling God has placed on your life. Every task done with love and obedience is an act of worship. Remember, it’s not just about working hard, but about working faithfully in what He has entrusted to you.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for creating us with purpose and intention. Thank You for the good works You have prepared for us to do. Help us to see our labor—no matter how small—as part of Your greater plan. Teach us to work not just for ourselves but for Your glory. Strengthen our hands and renew our hearts as we seek to serve You through the work You've given us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
