From Where I Sit
Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law. Psalm 119:18 (ESV)
ME: Jesus, I’m having a struggle right now. My hip and knee are both painful. I just don’t know what is going to happen to me. You know I don’t like surprises.
JESUS: I offer you Peace.
ME: Yes, I know that, but I don’t really feel it. I know I need a knee replacement, what if I’m shut down for a few more months? What will happen?
JESUS: By being anxious, can you add a single hour to your span of life?
ME: No, but I need to work to pay my bills.
JESUS: Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you.
ME: You make it all sound so easy and… I don’t see it Your way right now.
JESUS: I am offering you perfect peace during this healing time. Why are you so skeptical?
ME: From where I sit in my recliner I am watching summer disappear before my eyes. The shades of vibrant red, muted orange, and golden yellow leaves are taking over. My view isn’t totally clear for the future much like what I see outside. I’ve lost an entire month of my life and can’t remember much except the love and devotion of Michael.
JESUS: Doesn’t his caregiving bring you peace?
ME: Of course it does.
JESUS: Who do you think put it there?
ME: …Oh no! I’m talking like I don’t think You’ve been with me or done enough. Please forgive me.
JESUS: Do you have a need to relive the pain that you felt?
ME: Of course not. I don’t want to ever feel that again.
JESUS: So, what is really bothering you?
ME: Ummm…I guess I am feeling leery about the knee replacement.
JESUS: Well, I will be right there with you, holding your hand…as always.
ME: You are so good to me! I’m sorry to be a whiner and crybaby.
JESUS: That is your perspective—certainly not Mine. Take My Hand and feel My Peace. Sit back in your chair, look out the window and enjoy the beauty I’ve provided.
ME: Today I can do that! Open my eyes to see Your wondrous love. But what about…
JESUS: …Peace!
