God’s Glory in the Sky
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1
This past Friday night, the sky was putting on a quiet show, one of those moments where creation seemed to whisper God's name. The moon rose with a soft, glowing shade of red, as if the God had dipped it in that color just for us to notice. It looked so close, so rich, that I nearly felt I could stretch out my hand and touch it.
In that moment, standing in awe beneath the sky, I was reminded again of the wonders of God's creation. The same hands that shaped the galaxies, painted that red moon just to remind us, He is here, and He is glorious.
Too often, we rush through life with our heads down, focused on the next task, the next worry, the next deadline. We forget to look up. But when we do, when we pause and ask God to open our eyes, we begin to see not just beauty, but His presence in that beauty. Every glowing moon, every starlit sky, every sunrise ~ they’re not just parts of nature. They are sermons in the sky, declaring God’s creative genius.
And in that stillness, I found myself whispering a simple prayer I used to say as a child, looking out my bedroom window before bed ~
“God made the moon, and God made me. God bless the moon, and God bless me.”
It brought tears to my eyes. That childlike wonder, that trust, that awe are things we’re meant to keep. Faith grows not just through study, but through stillness, reflection, and gratitude. When we let God’s creation draw our attention back to Him, our hearts soften, our faith deepens, and our gratitude grows.
So tonight, or the next time the moon rises red and low, take a moment. Look up. Let the sky proclaim His glory and touch your soul.
Creator God, thank You for the beauty that surrounds us - the stars, the sky, the glowing moon that lights up the night. Thank You for moments that stop us in our tracks and remind us of who You are. Open our eyes to see Your glory all around us, and soften our hearts to respond with wonder and gratitude. Help us to trust You with childlike faith and to rest in Your love every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
