Zoom in on the Smaller Blessings
My whole being, praise the LORD and do not forget his faithfulness. Psalm 103:2 (NCV)
Sometimes we miss His blessings! We have all been there and done that. There are a plethora of reasons but mostly it is because we are too busy to notice. Do you have a gratitude list and are you adding to it? Dianne Neal Matthews (Mornings with Jesus) encourages us to zoom in on the smaller blessings and then we will capture all of them—big and little.

“For you, Nana!” Lilah held out a teeny-tiny purple flower she’d found in her yard. I pulled out my phone, and we snapped photos of the precious gift, some with the flower in her hand and others with it lying on different surfaces. As we looked at the pictures, we zoomed in and marveled over the bloom’s intense color, its graceful, curved edges, and the intricate structures in the center. The little flower wilted quickly, but I still treasure the photos.
I have a tendency to sometimes get so caught up in the big picture that I miss out on little details that would encourage or inspire me. A daily goal or lifelong dream may seem too lofty to achieve unless I notice the baby steps I’m taking that gradually move me closer to achieving it. A problem may look too big to solve until I pay attention to the small signs of improvement.
I know Jesus is working in my life and in the world around me every day. Sometimes His presence and intervention are obvious, but He also shows Himself in subtle ways that might go unnoticed. If I train myself to focus on the little things that bring joy, comfort, or a glimpse of beauty, my life is sure to be richer and filled with praise. Zooming in on the smaller blessings Jesus pours out every single day is the picture-perfect way to live.
FAITH STEP: Walk around your yard or your favorite spot to observe nature. Zoom in on the little details you might not normally notice. Thank Jesus for surrounding you with small blessings along the way.
Heavenly Father, thank You for all the blessings You pour out upon us. Forgive us when we don’t notice them because we don’t take the time to slow down and recognize Your faithfulness. AMEN.
