Something Is Wrong
“Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.” Acts 18:9-10 (ESV)
ME: Jesus, something is wrong and I don’t know what to do.
JESUS: Let’s talk about it. Tell Me what is bothering you.
ME: I know there is no such thing as a perfect church and all families have disagreements and spats, but it makes me sad to see this happening. I guess You know when my heart is heavy, I tend to write more. Well, my soul is greatly burdened.
JESUS: You still have not told Me the real issue as you see it. What are you trying to say?
ME: I want to see unity within my church family, not finger pointing, he said/she said stuff, and certainly not talk of leaving—just because. I want my church/Your church to be protected from the evil of this world. From the leadership down to the newcomer, I desire that Your will be done. I do not want to see a church war unfold but I really do not know how to stop this. You know I don’t like conflict.
JESUS: Admirable desires and yes, I know you become uneasy with even minor conflicts. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44, ESV).
ME: Wait a minute. I never said they were my enemies.
JESUS: No, but your thoughts could easily turn in that direction. My words will remind you to change your attitude before this becomes an us against them situation. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them (Romans 12:14, ESV).
ME: Why do You keep calling them enemies?
JESUS: My precious child, can you call them friends right now? I know your thoughts and they are not very kind or loving. Let’s turn this around. What do you want to see happen? Forget the hurt and disappointment you may feel.
ME: Jesus, I want to see restoration, accountability, honesty, and better church health.
JESUS: So, how is this going to come about?
ME: That is why I am coming to You. I don’t know the right course of action.
JESUS: Yes you do, My child. Do everything decently and in order. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
ME:: Do You really think I can do this?
JESUS: Yes! Re-read your chosen verse for today. Trust Me, I am with you!
Loving Lord, thank You for being ever-present in our life. When all else fails, please help us to stand strong and to recognize what is wrong. AMEN.
