God Is Good
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:5
I had a friend who always said, “God is good…all the time.” Most of the time she said it with great joy and a big smile. Sometimes she would say it with tears in her eyes, in a whisper. Over the years, I came to understand that her words were not based on circumstances. They were based on trust.
It is easy to declare God’s goodness when life feels full of blessings. When prayers are answered, when family is healthy, when friendships are strong, when hope feels alive — we naturally rejoice and say, “God is good.”
But we know there are also painful seasons. There are days of loss, disappointment, loneliness, unanswered prayers, and deep grief. In those moments, God’s goodness can feel harder to see. We may wonder where He is or why He has allowed pain into our lives.
Psalm 100:5 reminds us that God’s goodness is not measured by our circumstances. His character does not change when our lives become difficult. He is still good when hearts are broken. He is still loving when the future feels uncertain. He is still faithful when we feel weak and weary.
What makes this verse so comforting is the promise that His love “endures forever” and His faithfulness continues “through all generations.” God has been faithful to His people through every generation before us, and He will remain faithful to us now. The same God who carried others through suffering, fear, and uncertainty is carrying us too.
We may not always understand what God is doing, but we can trust who He is. His love does not run out. His faithfulness does not fail. And one day, even the painful chapters of our lives will reveal the steady presence of a good and faithful God who never left us.
Lord, thank You that Your goodness does not depend on our circumstances. In joyful seasons, help us praise You with gratitude. In painful seasons, help us trust You even when we cannot understand You. Remind us that Your love endures forever and that Your faithfulness never fails. Strengthen us to hold onto You through every season of life. Amen.
