A Lesson in Praying ~ by Donna Hollowniczky
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
This devotion is a prayer that was said in our Bible study recently:
The assignment was to ask from God what you wanted in the fewest amount of words possible. The challenge was made by a pastor in an adult Sunday School class.
The exercise was difficult for most of us. We were taught that prayer is passionate. We knew the appropriate posture of folding our hands, and bowing our heads ~ and then proceeding with our praise, and or, our requests.
But this exercise was asking us to pray differently, with the same passion, fewer words, and more often. I remember a few of those prayers. One was, “God, I trust You.” Another was simply, “Thank You.” And yet another was “Help!” All the prayers were passionate! So today make your prayers brief, but often. Prayer is a powerful privilege.
Lord God, continue to teach us to pray. Amen.
