Every Day Is A Gift

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Last week I wished my family member a happy birthday. She responded with, "Thank you but I'm too old for birthdays!" I don't agree—each day of life is a gift from God to celebrate. Sure, maybe we can't celebrate like we could when we were younger, but every celebration is special.

As we grow older, birthdays often become quieter. We may no longer look forward to the parties, presents, or excitement we once enjoyed. Our bodies may not have the same strength or energy, and life may bring losses that make celebrations feel bittersweet. Yet our faith reminds us that every new day is evidence of God's grace and faithfulness.

Each sunrise is a fresh reminder that God is not finished with us. Every breath we take is sustained by His mercy. Whether we are young or old, healthy or struggling, surrounded by many people or spending the day in quiet, the gift of another day is an opportunity to know Christ more deeply, to love others more fully, and to glorify God in both ordinary and extraordinary moments.

Birthdays are not simply a reminder that another year has passed; they are a testimony that God has carried us through every season. He has been faithful in times of joy and sorrow, strength and weakness, certainty and waiting. Looking back allows us to see His hand guiding us, while looking ahead encourages us to trust Him with whatever is yet to come.

The world often measures age by what we can no longer do. God measures our lives by His steadfast love and His purpose for us. As long as He gives us another day, our lives have meaning, our prayers matter, our witness has value, and His work in us continues.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life and for each new day You give us. Whether we are celebrating a milestone birthday or simply waking up to another ordinary morning, we give thanks. Every day is a precious gift from You, a gift to be received with gratitude and lived for Your glory. Amen.
