Better Together
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
Last week, our church had a wonderful Vacation Bible School experience! Many children (and volunteers) were blessed. I'd like to reflect on the importance of teamwork and community in our Christian walk.
The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us that "two are better than one." It's a simple truth, but one that speaks powerfully into our lives today. God never intended us to follow Him alone. He created us for relationship, with Himself and with one another.
Throughout Scripture we see this lived out. Moses had Aaron by his side. Jesus called twelve disciples to journey with Him and sent them out in pairs. The early church grew because believers shared their gifts, encouraged one another, prayed together, and served together.
I'd like to ask you a question:
What qualities do you think make the best teams?
You may have thought of qualities such as trust, encouragement, kindness, humility, patience, good communication, loyalty, and a willingness to serve. These qualities don't just make effective teams, they also reflect the character of Christ.
As followers of Jesus, each of us has been given different gifts and abilities. We won't all think the same, serve in the same way, or have the same experiences, but God delights in using our diversity to strengthen His people. When we value one another, listen well, forgive quickly, and serve with love, we become a living example of Christ's body at work.
There are times when each of us will need someone to encourage us, pray with us, or simply walk beside us. At other times, we will have the opportunity to be that encouragement for someone else. That is how God designed His family to function—supporting, strengthening, and building one another up.
This week, may we look for opportunities to work alongside others, to encourage those who are struggling, and to use the gifts God has given us to serve Him faithfully. Together, we can achieve far more for God's kingdom than we ever could on our own.
Heavenly Father, thank You for making us part of Your family and for reminding us that we are better together. Thank You for the unique gifts You have given each of us and for the people You place in our lives to encourage and strengthen us. Help us to be people who build others up, who serve with humility, and who reflect the love of Christ in all we do. Guide us to work together in unity so that our lives may bring glory to You and blessing to those around us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
