Even When I Can’t See It
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Psalm 96:11-12 (ESV)
Recently, there were two nights of meteor showers. We could not see them because the skies were overcast. This magnificent ongoing event happened for about 48 hours. Think about that. Just because we couldn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. There are many occurrences that take place and we are oblivious to them.
Do we only believe what we can see and hear? The wind cannot be seen. Results of it are easily witnessed. Germs and bacteria are invisible. Their presence is often catastrophic. Feelings of love and hate are invisible—until acted upon.
Beauty is difficult to see within ourselves and yet others spot it quickly. Do we turn a blind eye to ourselves? Are we even able to see the true beauty God has given us? Even though we are created in His image, somehow, we still don’t get it.
There are many mysteries in this world. We are in need of eyes to see things as they really are today. Around us are some who would like us to stumble and fall. Their lives are most miserable and they are tormented. While we can’t see into their minds, we can observe behaviors. The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God (2 Corinthians 4:4, ESV). This is kind of a reality check for us.
Are we going to believe only what we can see with our eyes? Even though we cannot always see or feel it, thank God He is still working on us. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6, ESV).
I know that I know some of these things and I must believe. I’m working on the rest. How about you?
Loving Father, thank You for always being with us even when we can’t see or feel Your presence. Please help us to believe even when life becomes unbelievable. AMEN.
