A 3-Festive-Modes Flashing Necklace
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
When Michael came to visit at Thanksgiving, he brought me a little silly gift. It is a Christmas necklace that lights up three different ways. We laughed about it and he told me, “You seem like the kind of person that would actually wear it!” Then I laughed even harder because I have had many, many over the years and I DO wear them.
How could I possibly get a devotion out of this little gift? Well, it’s the everyday things that make me ponder about life. Yes, I do wear a cross necklace all the time, but this is different. It yells Merry Christmas! With random twinkle, all flashing or all-on mode, anyone could see it approach from a distance.
Shining for Jesus is something to seriously think about. It is so easy to turn our attention toward other things during this season. We are consumed with decorations, shopping, keeping the kids/grandkids under control, wrapping and trying to stay stress and debt free. Working ourselves into a frenzy, we tend to forget why and what we are celebrating.
Christmas is marketed as a once-a-year event, and I am most grateful for that. None of us could survive in this mode for much longer than a month and keep our sanity.
If we liken ourselves to this necklace, there are times when we naturally blink with exuberance and excitement as Christmas Day approaches. Depending on our mood, we could randomly flash the Good News as we share our love for Jesus. But I truly believe that the steady glow is probably the most significant. To continue to shine for Him on December 26th and all year long is what makes Him smile.
Yes, I will wear this Christmas necklace because it has a new meaning for me.
What could happen if we got excited and blinked with joy? Envision life if we shared the Good News randomly with strangers? Keep shining for Him! Just saying…
Gracious and Loving Father, thank You for the everyday things that turn into life lessons. Help us to never stop shining. AMEN.
