Do You Feel Sad?
And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. Genesis 6:6 (ESV)
ME: Jesus, do You ever feel sad or angry about the condition of our world that You created?
JESUS: Like you, I also have emotions, very deep feelings like joy, anger, compassion and grief and it is in response to your human behaviors.
ME: If You feel sad or angry, why do You let it happen? Why don’t You step in and stop the horrific events that take innocent lives? You could stop the wars; I know You have the power.
JESUS: My precious child, remember that I also gave mankind free will. Once there was a huge regret and the earth was destroyed except for Noah and his family. A promise was made that a flood would never happen again.
ME: Do You regret having made that promise?
JESUS: You must try to understand My grief for ungodly behavior and at the same time, I also have great compassion for My children.
ME: When You feel sad, what do You do to get over it?
JESUS: I am merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love (Psalm 103:8). My steadfast love covers a multitude of your human sins and endures forever. Yes, I am grieved by thoughtless and wicked injustices.
ME: I still don’t get why You are not stopping these things that make You feel sad or angry.
JESUS: Let me tell you that My wrath is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness (Romans 1:18). My wrath upon the ungodly will come—but not yet
ME: I guess that is good news for us, right?
JESUS: Yes, but until then you must not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30).
ME: That is a big challenge!
JESUS: And sometimes you will do well and other times you will fall short. Just remember that you are My child and I, as a father, show compassion to My children. I take pleasure in My people, and adorn the humble with salvation.
ME: I always enjoy our time together. I love how You speak to me in ways that I understand.
JESUS: I agree. These moments are precious.
