Keep Praying!

"Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up." Luke 18:1

In the Parable of the Persistent Widow (Luke 18:1–8), Jesus contrasts a heartless, unjust judge with our loving and just God. The widow pleads over and over until the judge gives in—not out of compassion, but annoyance. Jesus uses this contrast to remind us God is not like the judge. He is gracious, attentive, and responsive, not out of obligation, but because He loves us deeply.

Yet, we are invited to be like the persistent widow—bold, unwavering, and faithful in our prayers. Her persistence wasn’t a sign of doubt but of trust that eventually she would receive justice. Likewise, our persistence in prayer is not about wearing God down, but about showing our dependence on Him and faith in His perfect timing.

Don’t lose heart. Keep praying. You’re not pleading before an indifferent judge, you’re speaking to your loving Father.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are nothing like the unjust judge. You are kind, attentive, and just. Teach us to pray with persistence, trusting that You hear and care deeply. Help us not to give up when answers seem delayed, or not what we asked for. Help us to hold fast in faith, knowing that You are always working for our good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
