The Goodness of God on Our Difficult Days

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13 (NIV)

Today will be a difficult day as many friends and folks at church are gathering together for the funeral of a dear lady, a wonderful friend, and beloved saint. She loved the song The Goodness of God. So, today I need to remember the goodness of God every day but especially on days like today. On days like this, our souls crave the steady reminder that even through pain, God is still good.

We have a Savior who has been faithful all our lives, whose mercy never fails, whose goodness is running after us—even now. That truth hasn’t changed, even though some days hurt. God’s goodness isn’t proven by how easy life feels, but by His unchanging presence through every valley and shadow.

When we can’t make sense of loss and difficulties we can still trust the heart of the One who promises to never leave us. His goodness is not a distant idea—it’s the very reason we have hope beyond the grave, on every dark day. Because of Jesus, we have His love, peace, presence to cling to, to fill us.

So on the hardest days, take a deep breath and whisper it to your soul: “God, You are still good.” His goodness remains our anchor, our comfort, and our song—even through tears.

Father, thank You for being good—always, even when our hearts are heavy. We rest in the truth that with Your help, we can see Your goodness even in our own sorrow. We trust Your heart when we cannot trace Your hand, and can sing of Your faithfulness even through our tears. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
