God, Who Guides Us

I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. Psalm 16:7

There is something deeply comforting in these words of David. He does not say that he always knows what to do or that life is always clear. Instead, he gives thanks because the Lord gives him counsel. God does not leave His people to wander alone. He speaks to us through His Word, teaches us His ways, and continually directs us toward His promises.

The words “in the night also” remind us that God’s guidance is not limited to the bright and easy moments of life. In times of worry, uncertainty, grief, or loneliness, the Lord remains near. When our minds are restless and our hearts are troubled, His Word continues to speak. The Lord uses His promises to turn our hearts away from fear and back toward Christ.

Our confidence does not rest in our own wisdom or ability to make every decision perfectly. Our confidence rests in the Savior who has redeemed us and promises to remain with us. As we listen to God's Word, pray, and gather with His people, He continually reminds us whose we are.

So today, whatever concerns or questions we carry, we can pray with David: “Lord, thank You for Your counsel.” We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we know the One who holds us. His Word is trustworthy, His grace is sufficient, and His presence is sure.

Lord God, thank You for giving us Your Word to guide and comfort us. When we are uncertain, give us wisdom; when we are troubled, give us peace; and when we are weary, turn our hearts again to Jesus and His promises. Keep us faithful in Your Word and strengthen us by Your grace. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
