No One Is Exempt from Purpose

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

Why am I still here?

What is my purpose in living?

Am I too old to make a difference?

What am I supposed to do now?

We have all heard comments like this at some point during our lifetime. What is the proper godly way to respond? These scripture verses might be very helpful:

Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Philippians 2:13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

I once had a friend who was a good twenty years older than me. (She’s gone now.) Every day she asked the question: “Why am I still here?” Day after day was the same. I don’t think she ever got over the death of her husband. I did my best to speak positive words into her life. We met when we were paired up as greeters at church. She was simply amazing as she made everyone feel welcome. She had the ability to reach out to other members and place them together for the day because she knew everyone. To everyone she met, she was happy and content with her life. I knew a different story. Her ending chapter was a sad one.

We each have a niche where we sparkle and shine. God has placed within us a passion for something. Sports? When you go to a game, who is sitting beside you? A stranger? Make yourself known. Prayer warrior? Don’t just tell someone you’ll pray for them, do it now. Music? Select carefully what you listen to and share meaningful songs with others.

There is a purpose for everyone on this planet. Many of us step into that early in life but for some, it takes more time. There may be changes along the way. Please be patient with yourself and others.

Show Me My Purpose

Loving Lord, thank You for helping us find our niche where we can shine for You. Teach us Your ways and embolden us to become more like You every day. AMEN.
