Come and Find the Quiet Center
And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14 (ESV)
Come and Find the Quiet Center
Before I share my thoughts, please listen to this beautiful song and let the words soak into your inner-most being.
Did you realize that we cannot make rest, can’t manufacture it, or copy it? Rest is a gift from God. The only real rest we have is with Him. Again, I am not speaking about sleeping but rather the safe, secure, and curious moments when we just breathe and turn off the world. Yes, it can be done. It’s called a sacred pause, and it changes everything.
Ask yourself these questions: What keeps me from stopping the chaos of my world to seek alone time with Jesus? Why is it so difficult to carve time out of my busy schedule? What am I busy doing? Is what I’m busy doing making a difference in anyone’s life?
Most of us struggle with the concept of “just being.” We have concluded that doing is of far greater value than being. Not so! It is in those moments of quiet closeness that we gain vision, strength and insight. We are to be His disciples; learning all we can from our Lord and Master. However, if we are running at such a wild-paced speed, where and when does the apprenticeship begin?
We must admit our need of Him. That is a humbling experience today. We like to think that we have it all together; our little ducks are all in a row and marching to the same beat. That is not even close to reality. As we slow down and start looking around, we discover we are not the only ones dragging our feet and stooping under heavy burdens.
To rest in Him is a constant invitation that provides everything needed for that day. It isn’t like taking vitamins where there is no real difference noted. When we’ve been in His Presence, there is a fullness of joy.
This beautiful sacred pause can be ours any time and any place. All of us can experience God’s rest in a hectic world.
Come on! Give it a try! Just be and find the quiet center.
Gracious God, thank You for Your love and patience with us. We tend to run wild and fast as we do things for You. That isn’t what you’ve required of us. Teach us how to settle down and just be with You. AMEN.
