Open Our Eyes Lord

Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself. Luke 24:27
Have you ever searched high and low for something, only to discover it was right in front of you the whole time? That’s the quiet irony in this beautiful moment on the road to Emmaus. Two disciples walked away from Jerusalem with heavy hearts, convinced that Jesus, the One they had trusted, was gone. Their hopes felt buried, their future uncertain.

Yet as they walked those seven miles, Jesus Himself drew near. They didn’t recognize Him. Their grief blurred their vision, and their expectations kept them from seeing what was right beside them. Still, Jesus didn’t rush to correct them or reveal Himself immediately. Instead, He walked with them. He listened. And then, patiently and lovingly, He began to unfold the Scriptures.

Starting with Moses and moving through the Prophets, Jesus revealed how all along the story had been pointing to Him; His suffering, His glory, His redemption. What they thought was the end was actually the fulfillment. What felt like defeat was, in truth, victory.

Isn’t that how He still meets us today?

We, too, walk roads marked by confusion, disappointment, or unanswered questions. Sometimes we feel as though God is distant or silent. But like those disciples, we may not realize that Jesus is already near—walking with us in the middle of our circumstances.

And just as He did then, He still reveals Himself through the Scriptures. When we open the Bible, we aren’t just reading ancient words—we are being invited into a living conversation with Christ. He patiently shows us who He is, how deeply He loves us, and how every part of God’s story points to His redeeming work.

The disciples later said, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” That same fire can burn in our hearts today. When we seek Him, when we listen, when we allow His Word to speak—our eyes begin to open.

Maybe what you’re searching for isn’t far away. Maybe Jesus is already walking beside you, ready to reveal Himself in ways you didn’t expect.

Lord Jesus, thank You for walking with us even when we don’t recognize You. Open our eyes to see Your presence in our lives and ignite our hearts through Your Word. Help us to trust that You are near, even in moments of doubt or disappointment. Reveal Yourself to us more each day, and guide us in Your truth.
Amen.
