A Beautiful Image of His Love

Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. Revelation 19:7

This week I will be happy to attend the wedding of two special young adults. Yesterday I met with a wonderful couple, married for 57 years, who will renew their vows on their 58th anniversary. These two events got me thinking about how intentionally God has used the image of His Son as the groom and the church His bride.

Throughout Scripture, marriage is more than a social institution or romantic partnership. It is a living picture of covenant love — faithful, sacrificial, enduring, and full of grace. From the prophets of the Old Testament to the final chapters of Revelation, God continually reminds us that His relationship with His people is deeply personal and lovingly committed.

Jesus is described as the Bridegroom who comes for His bride with joy and devotion. The church, imperfect though she may be, is cherished and redeemed by Him. In Ephesians 5, Paul tells us that earthly marriage points beyond itself to the “mystery” of Christ and the church. Human love at its best reflects the greater love of the Savior who gave Himself completely for those He loves.

Weddings and anniversary celebrations remind us that love grows strongest through faithfulness. The beauty of a young couple beginning their journey together and the testimony of a couple persevering together for nearly six decades both echo the steadfast love of Christ. He does not abandon His bride when times are difficult. He remains constant, patient, forgiving, and true.

As believers, we live in hopeful anticipation of the great wedding feast of the Lamb, when Christ will gather His people to Himself forever. Every Christian marriage, every renewed vow, every act of covenant faithfulness becomes a small reflection of that coming joy.

May we respond to such love with devotion of our own — loving Christ wholeheartedly, trusting Him fully, and remaining faithful as we await His return.
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving Your church with perfect faithfulness and sacrificial grace. Teach us to reflect Your covenant love in our relationships and in our daily walk with You. Help us live as a faithful bride, ready with joyful expectation for the day we will be united with You forever. Amen.
