A Prayer for Our Nation
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12
Heavenly Father,
On this milestone anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we pause to honor the wisdom of those who came before us. Guided by You, our founders declared that all people are created equal, endowed by You with the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We thank You for protecting this promise through every generation.
Lord,
Where our nation is divided, make us peacemakers. Where there is hardship, grant us the grace and generosity to help one another. We ask for Your wisdom to guide our leaders at every level. Give them the courage to do what is right and good for all.
Bless our communities and families,
From our largest cities to our quaintest towns. Protect those who keep us safe. Strengthen our families, and inspire our youth to become peacemakers and just and kind leaders for the future.
Help us remember,
Before we are citizens of any earthly nation, we are Your children first. Keep our hearts focused on Your truth, love, and the call to serve our neighbors.
We pray these things in Your holy name, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
