Race to the Cross

But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24 (ESV)

ME: Jesus, is more ever better?

JESUS: And good morning to you, too! I know what you’re thinking but I want to hear you explain yourself. Talk to me!

ME: Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing enough for You. I feel sluggish and I can’t seem to catch up with myself. Then I over-do it and I’m exhausted.

JESUS: Who told you to do more?

ME: Well…um…I guess I do. I just feel like I’m never doing enough. I look around and see what others are doing and I feel…less than.

JESUS: You are comparing yourself again. You will always come up short when you do that. What more would you like to be doing?

ME: I want to…have the strength and energy to get things done.

JESUS: What things?

ME: Like cleaning; winter is when you clean out nooks and crannies. I’d like to go back to work and just feel useful.

JESUS: Who keeps telling you these things? I have not set these expectations upon you. I am still healing your body. You’ve been through so much recently.

ME: But You asked me what I’d like to do. I don’t feel …

JESUS: There is that word feel again. Your feelings are very real to you, but I offer you more. I want you to understand that you are exactly where I want you to be right now—trusting Me. Be content with today. I can take off some of the pressure if you will let My Holy Spirit guide you through this day.

ME: So are you saying that the Tortoise and the Hare adage is real?  Slow and steady wins the race!

JESUS: Precisely! Sprinting is not necessary in your race to the cross. Keep your faith on level ground with a stable pace. Your feelings will try to pull you off course, but take My hand. I will walk you into your eternal home.

ME: Thank You! I always feel so much better after I’ve talked to You.

I Have Finished the Race
