Oh Lord, My God, When I in Awesome Wonder

On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. Psalm 145:5 (ESV)

Driving through the woods early one morning, I enter a three-mile stretch where I am overwhelmed by His amazing handiwork.

Leaves sparkle in the morning sunshine.

The ferns glisten with heavy dew.

Bedazzled spider webs have been woven between the wildflowers along the road.

The sun shines and I see clearly into last night’s darkness.

I stop and listen.

The birds sing their repertoire of praise songs.

How can anyone say there is no God? How did it all get here?

The proud doe cleans her fawn.

A momma bear with her three cubs makes a visit.

The day wears on.

My heart is being filled with His love.

My friends with feathers come to the near-by feeders.

Red squirrels, grey and black come to partake.

Huge, unhurried raccoons appear and begin filling up on corn.

Two rust-colored bunnies investigate their surroundings, moving from one delicious dandelion to the next.

The chipmunks, with tails straight up, run back and forth with their cheeks podding after gathering corn to share with their young.

Breezes move through the trees.

The old evergreens sway and bow their boughs as if to worship their Maker.

The wide variety of green colored leaves flutter in the wind.

They rustle with joy.

I sense their completeness.

The world is silent, but not my song of praise.

There are only sights and sounds of nature.

God has blessed me to be able to see it all.

How can we do anything but proclaim, My God, how great Thou art!

How Great Thou Art

Most Holy God, thank You for all the beauty You show us every day. Help us to be alert, to see it and to respond with pure praise. Time and again You have blessed us with splendor and we have been too busy to take in, much less react. Please forgive us. Teach us to breathe in Your creation with great joy. AMEN.
